This is the setting for The Great Druntochty Challenge in May each year. A good workout.

Very good recently in the dry. 'They' have been up maintaining the trails and clearing some of the fallen trees. Slippery when wet!

The Mongour

Length: 3.9 Miles
Ascent: 216 m
Time: 1.5 hrs
Tech Grade: Moderate
Fitness Grade: Moderate
Av. Trail Rating:

Description:-
Start by climbing the tarmac access road for the TV mast. You have to go through a gate before reaching the path on the left (tag 1). It is fairly obvious along its length, but whether is can actually be called a path or just a firebreak is perhaps debatable! You eventually reach a sign sending you up steeply to the right (tag 2). This section is muddy as well so a push is probably required... You soon break out onto the summit of the Mongour with views opening up over Deeside.

Find your way to the picnic bench on the summit, and from there the path down is pretty obvious. It starts off quite wet but soon develops into an interesting descent. Contrary to the OS Map it actually continues past where it is shown to end (tag 3), and runs parallel to the main track down to the bottom (tag 4). You have to carry your bike down to the track at the end but it is a pretty long descent.

Then just carry on along the fireroad back to the start.
