Head out of Jed on the a68(this is a busy road so take care) south to ferniehirst castle go up the private drive(steep in places) past the castle. On to the Mossburnford road folow this past Mossburnford up the hill to the strip of wood between Mossburnford and Dophistone Farm. turn left on to a forest road follow his until you come to a hunting gate go through this across a fild through a field gate on on to a track that takes you past the old Oxnam Pottery on to the oxnam camptown road. Turn left good down the rad to the junction that takes you towards Hownam follow this road to Swinside take a track on the left and head hill on a farm track which slowly turns to grass.cross a field and on to the whitton/Hownam Road turn left down hill to where the Road levels off and turn right on to a farm track that takes you to edge of the forest go through thegate you'll need to push the bike to the first fire break on the left then take the next fire break on the right follow this until you meet the forest road follow this for fast downhill most of the way to Oxnam Row. turn right along to Oxnam take a laft and head up along the Road to the end of the tar contnue on farm track this takes you back to mossburnford follow the road up hill back to ward Jed head a long to the right to Scraesburgh turn left up a steep hill on tar road. Go over the hill down take a left turning on to the drive along to Hunthill take a right half way along which takes you on to a nice wee bit off single track through the wood to Howden farm then follow the road back down to the car park in front of Jedburgh Abbey.

good local trail around jed, on mostly woodland single tracks with most of the climbs on road or farm tracks.

good level route with not to much climbing. Nice sections along old railway line and along Teviot river then back through some of tracks around Harestanes.

jed to hownam

route from Jedburgh to Hownam using deere Street(old roman road) for the majority of the off road sections. Note deere street can be wet in places best to do this after a longish dry spell!
