Description:-
Laggan Wolftrax is well established as a classic Scottish trail centre. Set in the beautiful Strathmashie Forest, Wolftrax provides a sympathetically developed natural feeling hub for mountain bikers in the area.

The Laggan Wolftrax Centre has a café and bike shop/rental and provide all the facilities you are likely to need, and the trails provide a suitable playground for a broad spectrum of abilities.

The trails themselves have all been very well designed and are amongst the best examples of what they are in the country. There is a Green, two separate Reds, an Orange, and a Black trail.

The Red route is cracking fun...loads of wee challenges and not a huge amount of climbing once you get to the top. Views are cracking and it's a belter of a route for such a short distance. Love the p... read whole comment...

A great trail centre in a very scenic location with well thought out trails

This is my favourite trail centre, both red runs have a good mix of techy rocky bits, as well as some good fast flowing sections. The rock is pretty grippy too even when it is wet, so it gives you ple... read whole comment...

Description:-
Like most of the trails at Wolftrax, this one starts with a fireroad climb up towards the top. The start of the singletrack trail itself is at the highest point at Tag1. From there a solid kitty-litter type trail with various ‘moderately’ technical rock features twists its way down towards ‘Air’s Rock’ at Tag2. This is a technically ‘Hard’ graded obstacle on the otherwise ‘moderately’ technical trail. Air’s rock is a steep but very smooth bedrock feature which you ride down. In actual fact it is not particularly difficult, but you do need a little technique and confidence.

Then you have another sweet singletrack section with rock gardens, switchbacks, and the odd berm which takes you to the start of a slight climb into the woods. After the top of this little climb is reached at Tag3 it is all down hill.

The first part of the decent opens out onto exposed hillside with the track dug down into a gully of rocks and technical little drops etc. It is all quite fast though, so you can carry your speed easily from section to section. Then you head back into the forest and have another fast bermy section with a couple of small rock jumps and drops, before a very twisty sequence of flat turns spits you out on a fire road.

But don’t worry you’re only crossing the fire road (not going along it). This is a short rough grassy, muddy, rocky descent back onto the trail to get to the start of the north-shore section they call ‘The Wolf Run’ at Tag4. This is a wide (and thus easy) section of pretty low to the ground north-shore which has an interesting sequence of turns and dips in it.

You then join the Orange route at Tag5, which gives you a jump-park style sequence of smooth surfaced jumps, doubles, and table-tops on the way back down to the main car park.

The Black route is cracking fun...very technical (but can be ridden on a 90mm travel hardtail!) - keep the wheels rolling and it's pretty straightforward (although it looks very technical - it is, but... read whole comment...

One of the best! The black is a good descent with obstacle after obstacle- tech riding at its best!

This is the black route followed by climbing up again to the top of the blue fun park. The black is quite technical in places with plenty of rocky sections.

Brown Trails

Length: 5.4 Miles
Ascent: 352 m
Time: 2 hrs
Tech Grade: Hard
Fitness Grade: Moderate
Av. Trail Rating:

Description:-
The Brown (unofficial) trails at Laggan are located on the hill (Black Craig) across the road from Wolftrax just below the remains of an ancient Pictish Hill Fort. They are quite challenging; harder than the Red Routes at Wolftrax but slightly easier than the Black. Expect roots, rocks and sharp turns as the trails descend some steep terrain through the forest.
The two described here are quite easy to find. Take the wide forest road next to the row of houses and follow for about half a mile. Turn left onto a smaller forest road signposted to the Fort. Follow this for about a mile and at the junction turn right (hairpin bend) and carry on to the end, then follow the footpath uphill to the signpost and an information plaque about the Pictish Fort (Dun da Lamh). The lower trail starts on the right just after the plaque. The upper trail starts further up on the right just before the fort. It's well worth walking up to the fort for the spectacular views.
The two trails are similar in style but the lower one is the easier of the two so it may be best to do that one first to get a feel for the terrain. At the end of the trail turn right on the forest road to return to the top or left to head back to Wolftrax.

Laggan is the standard for trail centres. Tight, interesting, fast feature rich routes that leave you wanting more because of the relatively short blast it takes to complete the lot. Amazing location,... read whole comment...

A really enjoyable trail network...very short but allows multiple laps and variations to be had...nice mix of trails to allow you to build up.
