Description:-
Some very good varied riding here with plenty of hills. A favourite starting place is Rivington Lower Barn but parking can be difficult, in which case just park on the road up to the Higher Barn...

The Rivington area is very popular with walkers and many of the paths are footpaths - be considerate! There are better trails on Winter Hill, Healey Nab, Turton, Holcombe and Darwen Moors to name but a few. Have a look here for suggested sections of ride:

Also, if you are planning on riding between Crowthorn and Holcombe around the side of the moors, then be aware that the trail is sometimes closed when the army are doing live exercises. Check here for details:

Description:-
It's 13 miles of interesting riding, passing the Strawbury Duck pub and using a minor road from there over the Wayoh Res. As you climb the track near the Maggot Farm (if the wind is in the wrong direction move as fast as you can...) you head for a post on the moor (Tag 1) from here it's half a mile across a bog, but it is usually rideable takes about 10 minutes. After that there is some great single track for about a mile (Tag 2). Follow the track down, then the minor road. When you reach the B6235 take the wide track to the right almost opposite where you meet the road. Straightforward from there, later crossing the East Lancs railway. At that point turn left past the houses and it eventually meets the M66 extension (A56) turn right then over the bridge to meet the main road into Edenfield. Turn left into Gincroft Lane just before the mini roundabout, and start the climbing ! After 3/4mile take the track on the right for more climbing...

Depends how fast you push it as to how hard it is !
It's a lovely circular ride which I start from home (Egerton) but you could easily start from Rivington

The trail is one of those rare ones that is just as good in the opposite direction . Plenty of tracks on the moor to explore as well and extend the ride.

Description:-
Set off from Abbey Village ( use the road to park, not the Horse and Hounds pub car park) using the United Utilities owned Roddlesworth Reservoir tracks to Tockholes , all open to walkers, mtb'ers and horse riders. All well graded tracks . Head over the bridleways to the base of Darwen Tower . Take the smaller track to the right and traverse up the long climb and join the path to Darwen Tower . Great views from the top of the tower . Drop off the side of the moor into Belgrave district of Darwen ,and pick up the track back onto the moor. Follow the track down to Sunnyhurst wood. Take the tarmac track past Sunnyhurst wood ,and climb back to the moor on the gravel road. Take a left when the track swings back toward Tockholes ,and climb the tricky track to the moor. Take a right at the first junction on the moor ,and head towards the Lyon Den. Descend to the road ,and enter Roddlesworth Wood again . Follow the tracks back to the dam ( you can retrace the original route back to the first reservoir if you want here) .Cross the dam ,and follow the newly laid tracks through the woods. Join the reservoir track again and return to Abbey Village .
