Description:-
Duthie park is one of Aberdeen's public parks. A pleasant enough place but not much in the way of mountain biking. It is entered here because it is also the starting point of the path that goes out of Aberdeen along the route of an old railway line. This line goes all the way out the Deeside road and is a nice flat cycle, but it is also the start of the 'Urban ride' detailed below.

Urban Ride

Viewed 707 times
Length: 9.9 Miles
Ascent: 173 m
Time: 1.5 hrs
Tech Grade: Very Easy
Fitness Grade: Easy
Av. Trail Rating:
(1 votes so far)
Description:-
This is the 'Urban Ride' sometimes used by the Ecurie Neep mountain bike club.

This is a pretty good ride in terms of mountain biking if you don't have time to leave the bounds of the city itself. Not a challenging route by any means, but does include a surprising about of off-road stuff given its location. Good for keeping your fitness up if you can't get out further afield.

It is marked as tech grade 'Very Easy' but some of the return route down by the river is perhaps a bit close to the water to quite be described as 'Very Easy', but you could easily miss this bit out. It is also sometimes quite overgrown down by the river, it just depends on the time of year.

Just come back from doing this route. Two stars seems a bit mean, because it was great fun to blast round it. It just depends what you're in the mood for I guess. But I just can't bring myself to g... read whole comment...

Description:-
This is an alternative urban ride sometime used by the Ecurie Neep mountain bike club.

It is pretty similar to the original 'Urban Ride' but includes an extra loop round Hazelhead park and a nice rooty section round the back of the crematorium. And on the way back this route avoids going down to the river side (because sometimes it is just too overgrown down there).

Other than that its the same. Still not very technical, and still a good fun blast if you ride it fast.

Good ride to keep the fitness up. Was fecking cold when we did it the other day. Loved the Brimmond Hill bit, but I'd like to try descending the way we climbed, that looks fun. Although the fast de... read whole comment...

Outskirts of Aberdeen

Length: 27.3 Miles
Ascent: 507 m
Time: 4.5 hrs
Tech Grade: Easy
Fitness Grade: Hard
Av. Trail Rating:

Description:-
Only marked as a hard fitness level because it takes a while to do. No major climbing involved at all.

This route takes you out the abandoned railway line from Duthie Park to Culter (Tag1), then across to Countesswells (Tag2), round the back of the Crematorium (Tag3), then through Kingswells and up Brimmond Hill (Tag4). Then it heads over past Elrick Hill towards Kirkhill, but then stops short (at Tag 5) and comes back through town to get back to Duthie Park.

(The original plan was to do Kirkhill and then come round and back into Aberdeen from the north, but we had a slight change of plan due to rider incompetence :-)
