Description:-
Millstone hill sits very close to Bennachie (just to the South). At 408m high it’s not as high as Bennachie itself, but it does have great 360 degree views of the surrounding area from the top.

Pretty much all the trails here are on walkers tracks (some more natural and rooty, some more rocky and exposed). The primary location for this venue as marked above, is a standard forestry commission car park.

Downloaded this trail to my Garmin 810 and tried it last weekend. The first 1/2 mile uphill was difficult as it looked like a bulldozer had been in and they're in the middle of making a fire track? ... read whole comment...

Really good trail. The Decent down to tag 2 is great fun, however the very top section can be very wet, watch out for the puddles, they are deeper than you think!!

Been around the route with the exception of the first decent. I'll need to try harder to find it, I usually just bomb down the fire-track switchbacks. The Millstone Hill decent is fantastic though.

Description:-
This is the standard route the Neeps take over Millstone.

From the car park you immediately start on a long climb of firetrack. After that you turn away from Millstone itself and do more firetrack up and down to get to the first decent at Tag1, at this point you start to wonder why you do this ride, if you are not a fan of firetrack. However this question is soon answered with a brilliant technical, rooty, long single track down to Tag2. All Neeps seem to like this single track, and think it’s worth the detour from Milestone to capture it.

After this decent, you have another firetrack climb to the base of the climb up Milestone Hill itself at Tag3. The accent starts with forest path with walkers step obstacles (which make for a climbing challenge if you try to ride up them all). Out of the trees it is all ok riding with fun north shore sections bridging over the heather. At the top of Milestone (Tag4) the views are great. The decent from this point leads all the way to car park, about 20 minutes decent (depending how quickly you’re going of course). This Trail is marked as a ‘Moderate’ technical grade, but there is a short first part of this descent that is ‘Hard’ or even ‘Very Hard’ if you want to try to ride down it. Many Neeps do it, or at least attempt it, but as this part is only short, it is easy to climb down if you don’t fancy it. The rest of the decent is fun and fast all the way to the car park, and the climb at the beginning is a distant memory.

Not a big trail distance wise but some good climbs, peaty boggy sections but all worth it for the superb views on the single track heading over the westerly tops and the two great descents.

A Slight variation on the Millstone route going higher up on the lesser known paths on the Western summits on Bennachie before returning back along the Gordon Way and descending all the way from the Gordon on single track then over Millstone Hill at the end

Millstone 3 peak loop

Length: 9.7 Miles
Ascent: 702 m

Description:-
From the Donview carparkhead straight up the South side of Millstone (good slog to get warmed up!), down the North side watching out to keep on the sleepers. Then cross the fire road and head up the gordon way towards the fire road on the south side of Oxen Crag. Follow this until just past the Y junction with another fire road and look out on the LHS for a track headding into the trees. After enjoying the blast down, head back to millstone on the fire road and back up and over to the carpark.

The 3 sections of singletrack are all great fun flowing but technical, and get better as you pick up more speed, watch out for walkers though!
