Did this route today, as the description says, certainly not the best in the winter, even though a lot of the ground was frozen a lot of the offroad stuff is on chewed up bridleway and you'll have to ... read whole comment...

Having done this route again, I've altered the tech grading to easy. The only caveat to this is that the final descent to Crawcrook is steep and full of loose stones, so needs concentration! The winte... read whole comment...

Length: 11.2 Miles
Ascent: 347 m
Time: 1.5 hrs
Tech Grade: Easy
Fitness Grade: Moderate
Av. Trail Rating:

Description:-
A varied route which starts on uneven farm tracks, before heading along "Lumley's Lane", a bridleway which would be great in the dry but unfortunately is mostly a bog in the winter months. A detour to avoid this would be to follow Moor Lane up to the outskirts of Prudhoe, then turn left towards High Mickley. Once off the bridleway, there follows a steep climb to Hedley-On-The-Hill (it's well named!) and then a tarmac and farm track ride to Coalway Lane, the whole point of the ride. It's a steep, rocky test of skill and well worth the cycle!

Crawcrook (winter)

Length: 11.4 Miles
Ascent: 353 m
Time: 1.5 hrs
Tech Grade: Easy
Fitness Grade: Moderate
Av. Trail Rating:
(0 votes so far)
Description:-
A winter version of the first trail, with a slightly more rideable and less boggy ascent near the beginning. However, currently (mid-Feb), most tracks are still claggy with mud so some of the ascents are a bit of a slow drudge. And I'm still to find a way of cutting out the majority of the tarmac links ... a work in progress!
