For an entirely natural trail, this ride has a bit of everything: long, technical climbs; fast singletrack descents; rooty sections with small drops and logs; narrow, twisty technical sections; and fantastic views of the Cheviots! The descents at section 2 put a big grin on my face, as did the rooty drop down to Fairhaugh and the final descents into Alwinton. The stretch of road into the village is a 30+mph freewheel! I rode it on 20Aug12 and it’s mostly easy to navigate. The Forestry Commision has cleared much of west Kidland, so it's not always clear when you're 'entering the forest'. It’s boggy in several places, but worth persevering with. I had to walk some sections. I'm not particularly fit, but I'm a seasoned MTB rider. This ride took me nearly 4hrs, but only about 2.5hrs of that was riding; the rest was catching my breath! Mean HR was 170bpm, and 3000kcal burned! Don't be disheartened if the first climb takes you ages; you make much faster progress once you're in the forest.
